Behind the Scenes at The Block: Adam and Jolene’s Living and Dining Rugs

Oct 24, 2026

Two extra large wool rugs, a crane delivery and a contestant whose enthusiasm made the whole visit a pleasure. Our trip to help Adam and Jolene complete House 1 at The Block in Mount Eliza was certainly one to remember.

This year marks ten years of Rug Addiction working with The Block. For our family owned Bendigo business, it’s a milestone filled with wonderful people, beautiful rooms and plenty of behind the scenes adventures.

Helping Adam and Jolene bring their living and dining spaces together added another lovely memory to that story.

Jolene’s Choices: Two Extra Large Wool Rugs

Open plan rooms need rugs with enough presence to bring the furniture together. For House 1, Jolene selected two 300 × 400 cm wool rugs, giving both the living and dining areas a generous foundation.

Choosing complementary rugs helped connect the spaces while allowing each area to have its own character.

Davis: Understated Texture for the Dining Room

Beneath the dining table, Jolene chose our Davis rug, a handwoven flatweave crafted from 100% wool.

Its neutral palette and subtle texture added warmth without competing with the furniture or other finishes. The low-profile construction also made it a thoughtful choice for the dining setting.

Davis is a beautiful example of how an understated rug can make a room feel complete. It brings texture and softness to the space while allowing the surrounding styling to shine.

Kasbah: Wool Texture for the Living Room

For the living area, Jolene selected our Kasbah rug.

Handwoven from 100% wool, Kasbah combines textured geometric detail with an approximately 12 mm thickness. It brings depth to a contemporary room and creates an inviting foundation for the seating area.

In the generous 300 × 400 cm size, it helped bring the living room furniture together and define the space within the open plan layout.

Getting the Rugs Upstairs by Crane!

Delivering rugs to The Block is rarely an ordinary day, but this visit came with a surprise.

The only way to get these big rugs onto the second level was by crane.

Furniture, artwork and larger homewares had to make the same journey. With one crane on site and specific times available for its use, there was plenty to coordinate.

Watching it all happen gave me a real appreciation for the planning behind a finished room. Before the styling can begin, every large piece has to arrive in the right place!

A House Full of Activity

When I arrived, the living and dining area was buzzing. The boys were putting the finishing touches on a wall, and a large mirror had been installed.

I enjoyed having a walk around, admiring Jolene’s styling and Adam’s workmanship. There is something special about seeing a room while it is still coming together all those individual decisions beginning to form a complete picture.

Jolene was out shopping when I visited, so I missed seeing her that day. Adam, however, was there and made quite an impression.

Adam’s Enthusiasm Was a Highlight

By week six, the long days and pressure must be taking their toll. Yet Adam was full of humour, energy and enthusiasm.

He was welcoming, happy to have a chat and clearly enjoying the experience. In fact, I’d say he was the happiest contestant I’ve met halfway through the competition in our ten years of working with the show!

Those encounters are a big part of why we enjoy being involved. We love seeing our rugs in the finished rooms, but it’s the people and personal moments that make each year memorable.

Bringing the Look into Your Own Home

You don’t need a Block sized renovation to make a difference with a rug.

In an open plan living and dining room, start by measuring each furniture setting. A generous living room rug can help connect the seating, while a dining rug needs enough room around the table for chairs to move comfortably.

Choosing rugs with complementary colours or materials can create a connection between the spaces. Davis and Kasbah show how two different designs can work together through natural wool, texture and a considered palette.

Ten Years of Rug Addiction and The Block

After a decade of working with The Block, seeing our rugs become part of these homes still feels special.

Thank you, Adam and Jolene, for welcoming us into House 1. It was a pleasure to help complete your living and dining spaces, and we’ll be cheering you on as the competition draws to a close with the Auction. 27/30 score taking the win. 🏆
