Inside Deb and Andy’s Bedroom: Warm Neutrals and Our Laguna Shag Linen Rug
Some bedrooms make you want to kick off your shoes and settle in. Deb and Andy’s bedroom is one of those spaces.
We were delighted to work with Deb and Andy, known to many Australians from The Block, on their own home project, supplying the Laguna Shag Linen rug for their bedroom. Seeing how Deb styled it alongside white bedding, warm sandy tones and thoughtful details has been a lovely part of the experience.
The finished room feels relaxed, welcoming and personal, a beautiful example of how texture can bring a neutral bedroom to life.

How Deb Brought the Bedroom Together
Deb’s styling starts with a gentle palette of white, ivory and sandy beige. These colours sit comfortably alongside the timber flooring, creating warmth throughout the room.
White pillows and textured bedding keep the bed looking fresh, while the sandy bedcover adds depth. Striped bolster cushions introduce a little pattern without overwhelming the space, and the branch motif on an accent cushion adds another subtle detail.
Each layer contributes something different. Rather than relying on strong colour, Deb has used variations in tone, pattern and texture to create interest.
It’s an approach that works beautifully in a bedroom, where you want the space to feel considered but comfortable enough for everyday life.
The Rug That Adds the Finishing Touch
Beneath the bed, our Laguna Shag Linen rug adds a generous layer of texture.
Its ivory colour connects with the white bedding and warm neutral palette, while the shag pile provides a visual contrast to the smooth timber floor. That contrast helps the room feel softer and more inviting.
We love how Deb has allowed the rug to extend beyond the bed, making it a visible part of the room’s styling. Instead of disappearing beneath the furniture, it frames the bed and creates a welcoming place to step when getting up in the morning.
The photograph captures that comfort perfectly: Deb and Andy sitting together on the rug, with their two dogs joining them. It’s a lovely glimpse of a bedroom being enjoyed as part of a real home.

Why Texture Matters in a Neutral Bedroom
A neutral bedroom can be full of character. The key is giving the eye different surfaces and details to explore.
In Deb and Andy’s room, the combination of textured white bedding, striped cushions, a warm bedcover, timber flooring and the linen shag rug creates a layered look.
For anyone planning a similar bedroom, start with a small group of complementary colours, then introduce texture through your rug, bedding and cushions. You don’t need every piece to match exactly. A mix of white, cream, ivory and sandy tones can create a softer, more natural result.
A bedroom rug is particularly useful here because it covers a substantial area, helping to bring the palette together while adding texture at floor level.
Getting Bedroom Rug Placement Right
The placement of Deb and Andy’s rug is part of what makes the room feel so inviting. With the rug sitting beneath the bed and extending into the surrounding floor space, the bed and rug read as one complete arrangement.
When choosing a rug for your own bedroom, consider how much you would like to see on either side and at the foot of the bed. Think about where your feet land each morning and how the rug will sit alongside bedside tables, doorways and other furniture.
Before ordering, mark out the proposed dimensions on the floor with masking tape. This helps you judge the proportions and see how much of the rug will remain visible once the bed is in place.
